چکیده

Introduction: Effective out-of-hospital administration of naloxone in opioid overdoses is dependent on timely arrival naloxone. Delays emergency medical services (EMS) response time could potentially be overcome with drones to deliver efficiently the scene for bystander use. Our objective was evaluate a mathematical optimization simulation geographical placement drone bases reducing overdose. Methods: Using retrospective data from single EMS system January 2016–February 2019, we created geospatial drone-network model based current technological specifications and potential base locations. Genetic then used maximize county coverage by number covered per base. From this model, identified locations that minimize required. Results: In network 2,327 overdoses, as modeled increased calculated decreased. geospatially optimized four bases, compared ambulance reduced 4 minutes 38 seconds 64.2% county. Conclusion: our analysis found optimization, implementing reduce 9–1–1 calls overdoses. Therefore, theoretically improve delivery.

Optimizing a Drone Network to Deliver Automated External Defibrillators.

BACKGROUND Public access defibrillation programs can improve survival after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, but automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are rarely available for bystander use at the scene. Drones are an emerging technology that can deliver an AED to the scene of an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest for bystander use. We hypothesize that a drone network designed with the aid of a m...

Follow-up to Nonfatal Opioid Overdoses: More of the Same or an Opportunity for Change?

Opportunity for Change? M than 90% of patients who survive a prescription opioid overdose continue to be prescribed opioids after the event, usually by the same prescriber. This is the astonishing finding of the study by Larochelle and colleagues (1) published in this issue. Using the Optum database of claims for a large national insurer, the authors found that among 2848 patients who survived ...

Can we prevent drug related deaths by training opioid users to recognise and manage overdoses?

BACKGROUND Naloxone has been evidenced widely as a means of reducing mortality resulting from opiate overdose, yet its distribution to drug users remains limited. However, it is drug users who are most likely to be available to administer naloxone at the scene and who have been shown to be willing and motivated to deliver this intervention. The current study builds on a national training evalua...
